Foam Glow 5k Las Vegas May 31st

We have our tickets....you coming??

Monday Motivation

Its Monday!!  The weekend is over!!  Did you feast or did you stay on track??  (IF YOU NEED MOTIVATION THEN WATCH THE VIDEO AT THE END OF MY POST!) Do you have your workout & meal plans ready for the week.  If you have not then, today is the best day to start.  Take 15 minutes to sit down, plan your week for your workouts & meals.  Make your grocery list and take a trip to the grocery store to stock up for the week.  Prepare your meals.  Plan out what you will eat and when you will eat it.  Be smart.  Make sure to eat at least every 3 hours.  Carbs in the morning instead of late at night.  Don't go out to eat as much.  Make sure you are taking in enough protein.  Don't over eat.  Don't starve yourself.  Find a rhythm.  Know your nutrition goals.

Now, what is your workout program for the week.  Are you exercising to lose weight or gain muscle.  Do you have every day planned out.  Have you considered the time it will take to do the program?  Are you planning on an unforeseen circumstances that could pop up that will get in the way of your workout.  Review your notes and plans the night before.  Get your game face on.

Nutrition and Exercise is just like a business.  Work hard, plan properly & create the right habits and you will be successful.  Fail to prepare, don't plan, get lazy and your results will be a byproduct.

ITS MONDAY....ITS GAME TIME and as the good John McCarthy always says....

NOW LETS GET IT ON!!!!!!

Week 4 day 25 - Yoga is no Joke

Just finished P90x Yoga. I have to admit, yoga is no joke!!!  It was super tough. I have done it before but forgot how strenuous it was. I am so glad I have been losing weight and stretching a lot over the past six months cause if I had not I may be dead...or a pretzel. Ha ha I realize that in order to get through a hour and a half yoga class you really have to clear your mind and have nothing scheduled. For me I need to be alone and without the distractions of kids. This may be a very good lesson in the power of quiet time or a meditation time. As parents and busy professionals we are programmed to go go go, but need to realize that even 15 minutes alone in a quiet place to meditate, pray or just relax your mind...can be a very helpful habit. This was a fantastic workout and a wonderful quiet time of meditation for me.

Stop overcomplicating your diet

If poor diet is the biggest problem you have, then perhaps you need to simplify things.  STOP worrying about whether you should boil or steam or bake or grill it per the amount of nutrients you are losing that way. STOP debating whether you should buy from (insert national chain) or (insert health food store) based on the number of sweat shops used and/or pesticides added.  And STOP worrying about the taste or the non-glamorous presentation of the food and IF your body can adjust to such "extreme dieting" as no salt or JUST a chicken breast and a veggie.

Forget the small details.

Focus on the big picture.

Focus on the end result.

Bottom line...you need to keep your metabolism going, prevent your body from going into starvation mode and you need to burn more calories than you are taking in.  Allow this to become a habit...allow it to become a lifestyle...but keep it simple for now.  Steel cut oats, plain chicken breasts, broccoli and brussels sprouts (as an example) can be boring, but they are easy to make, simple to consume and get the job done.  Once the weight starts melting off & it has become a habit, you can adjust to prevent insanity.  Until then, stay focused on the goal at hand.

Just Forrest Gump it!  Don't question so much...just do it!!

Current Meal Plan (Not Diet)

So I started the 3 day quick fix meal plan (not diet...I plan on eating) on Monday.  I have used this before to drop some weight before going into a more mild meal plan.  I am guided by The 21 Day Fix Meal Plan (Click HERE to see what the heck I am talking about)  It is pretty awesome once you get into it.  The hardest part is the food prep...and I guess the first 2-3 days.

I am eating 6 meals a day.  My schedule is

8am - Steel Cut Oats & 4 Egg Whites
11am - Chicken breast & Half a cup of Sweet Potatoes
2pm - Chicken Breast & 2 Cups Brussel Sprouts
5pm - 2 Chicken Breasts & 1 Cup Brussel Sprouts
8pm - 1 Chicken Breast or 3 Tilapia Filets & 2 cups Brussel Sprouts
11pm - 1/2 Cup of Cottage Cheese

It has been a pretty good schedule.  I will do this for 3 days and then on my 4th day I will do my regular 21 Day fix meal plan based on the instructions from the program.  It takes a lot of prep and sacrifice...and you have to like chicken, but I like my results.

BEFORE AND AFTER PICS TO COME!!!  VERY PLEASED!!!

Week 2 Day 10 - P90x/Insanity Hybrid

Day 10 - This was P90x Shoulders and Arms.  A little slow, but a burner.  I realize that my shoulders are not very strong due to some injuries from over lifting as a younger guy...so I used some light weights and just tried to take it easy.  When I was younger, all I wanted to do was get JACKED and lift monster weights.  Nowadays, I try to slow down and think about what I am trying to accomplish and why.  Plus, I have been doing Insanity and Asylum for the past 3-6 months.  I haven't lifted weights in longer than that...so taking it slow seemed like a good idea.  Here is some video of a little of the warm up and some exercises.
