“I’m Actually Enjoying the Life I Live!”

“I’m Actually Enjoying the Life I Live!”

Meet Erin P.!

She participated in The Beachbody Challenge and won the $500 Daily Prize for September 25th!

Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?

I had every intention of getting in shape and looking good again. I had given birth to my second child in August of 2013, and was tired of feeling frumpy all of the time. I wasn’t working at the time, and staying home with my kids left me feeling tired and lazy all day. It was hard for me to get up out of bed and actually do things with them. Once I was up and moving I was alright, but getting up was so hard. If I sat back down or took a nap I was done for the day. My poor daughter was three years old and getting up to do anything with her felt like the biggest chore in the world. Unfortunately, it wasn’t until February of 2014 that I actually took action and made the decision to commit myself to a program. That’s when I began my road to success.

What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?

I knew that if I was going to be working all night and taking care of my children during the day that I needed to get myself together and get in shape. I needed to have a healthy mind and body. That’s when I took action, began drinking Shakeology daily, and followed ChaLEAN Extreme. I also joined a challenge group with my Coach, Jenna Curran. The accountability and support really helped me to continue even on days when I didn’t want to. The pounds started to melt away. I started to tone up. I was hooked.

What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?

The greatest challenge I faced before starting the program was simply getting up and getting moving. Not going to work during the day made it easy to sit around and do nothing. After starting a workout regime, I knew what it was like to be productive and how good it felt to get things accomplished. I get myself up every day and do my exercises. My daughter loves to do them with me, and helps to keep me accountable. I feel so much better knowing that I’m setting good examples for my children and truly being the best mom I can be. Beachbody has helped me to give 100% effort to my kids. People ask me all the time how I work nights and take care of my kids during the day. I tell them honestly that it’s because I exercise and drink Shakeology.

Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?

Physically, I’ve lost 33 pounds, and went from wearing a size 9 to a size 4. I’ve always had pretty strong and muscular legs, but using ChaLEAN Extreme has helped me build muscle in my arms as well. I can do real push-ups, not the modified version!!

How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?

I’m no longer afraid to go shopping for clothes or to get into a swimsuit. My self confidence has risen. I no longer worry about what I look like. The biggest, most important change is that I am much more active with my children and in my day to day activities. I’m actually enjoying the life I live!

Stay IN control with Clean Eating Portion Control
Don't blow your healthy routine by eating too much!

Portion control is a key to weight loss, but it's also a key to a healthy lifestyle.
When people usually think of the terminology, eating clean, they generally are referring to eating healthy overall. But, what exactly does eating healthy mean?

In reality, eating clean or eating healthy can mean a slew of different things to different people. For the majority of us, eating clean or eating healthy means eating natural and whole foods, consuming a balanced diet, and making sure to get all the necessary nutrients in our diets as much as possible.

For many of us, this can be quite a struggle.

With fast food establishments around every corner, and processed foods being sold all over the place with shiny labels beckoning us with their colors; eating clean serves to be quite a challenge. But alas, it is possible. Eating clean is a lifestyle in and of itself and those who eat clean must work on it each and every day.

When people strive to eat clean on a consistent basis, the first plan of action must be omitting processed food completely out of the mix. This includes foods that have been sitting on the shelves of grocery stores that are in cans or boxes, and foods that have a tremendous amount of ingredients listed.

As a rule, eating clean includes eating natural foods such as fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and consuming grains which have not been processed. All-natural cheese is an example of a clean food, as are nuts and even full fat butter. But, processed margarine, chips, cookies, and cakes are not good examples.

The result of eating clean for many people seems to be an added vitality and overall happiness, a more lean and fit body, and a positive outlook. When people eat clean, it has been shown that they have more energy, are more ambitious as a whole, and look better in terms of their skin showcasing a glow and their hair appearing shiny and lush.

At the end of the day, eating clean might be a small struggle, but that is a small price to pay for the immense benefits eating clean and healthy provides.

An apple a day really does keep the doctor away!

An apple a day really does keep the doctor away!

5 Health Benefits of an Apple

1. Benefit: Nutrition, straight up.

Packing in quite a bit of soluble fiber (4 grams per medium apple) for a modest amount of calories (95) makes apples a filling, sweet snack. Plus, a medium apple counts as 1 cup of fruit, so after eating one you’re well on your way to meeting your daily fruit quota (around 2 cups for adults on a 2,000-calorie diet). They also are a good source of immune-boosting vitamin C (providing 14% of the Daily Value).

2. Weight Loss

Apples satisfy hunger for few calories so it’s not surprising that they can be part of a healthy diet that promotes weight loss. And in a recent study, dried apples also helped participants lose some weight. Women who ate a cup of dried apples daily for a year lost some weight and lowered their cholesterol and heart disease markers. Florida State University researchers think apples’ antioxidants and pectin (a type of fiber) are responsible for the benefits—and think that fresh apples would be even more effective.

3. Heart Health

The Florida State study is not the only one to link apple consumption to heart health. Last year, the Iowa Women’s Health Study reported that, among the 34,000-plus women it’s been tracking for nearly 20 years, apples were associated with a lower risk of death from both coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease. Some years earlier, Finnish researchers studying dietary data collected over 28 years from 9,208 men and women found that frequent apple eaters had the lowest risk of suffering strokes compared with nonapple eaters. Experts attribute the heart-healthy benefits to antioxidant compounds found in apples, which help prevent LDL cholesterol from oxidizing and inhibit inflammation. Plus, the soluble fiber in apples has also been shown to lower cholesterol levels.

4. Protect Against Metabolic Syndrome

People who eat apples may be less likely to suffer from metabolic syndrome, a cluster of symptoms linked to an increased risk of heart disease and diabetes. Joyce Hendley reported in EatingWell Magazine that researchers who analyzed National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES) data, a survey of eating and health habits, found that people who had eaten apples in any form over the past day were 27 percent less likely to have symptoms of metabolic syndrome than those who didn’t. The apple eaters also had lower levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation whose presence in the blood suggests an increased risk for heart disease and diabetes.

5. Exercise Extender

Eating an apple before you work out may boost your exercise endurance. Apples deliver an antioxidant called quercetin, which aids endurance by making oxygen more available to the lungs. One study showed that quercetin—when taken in supplement form—helped people bike longer.

How do busy women stay fit?

So excited its finally here!!!

Tomorrow is the launch of my new project that is near and dear to my heart.

"How Do Busy Women Stay Fit?" Challenge Group.

60 days of Budget Friendly easy meals
Short but effective workouts
Accountability & Support to stay fit this fall.

I've been practicing what I preach and I'm getting my own family in order this week!
It's been the first week of school, Middle School orientation, school clothes shopping, I have had a ton of meetings, Coach calls, a ton of catch up to do from being on vacation and a house full of laundry to do!
This momma has a to do list a mile long.
It would be easy for me to let my workouts and my nutrition slack.... right!

We always want to put others before ourselves, but in reality when you give yourself 30 minutes a day to workout and eat healthy then you are able to accomplish more on that to do list.
Just like the demonstration a stewardess gives on the plane.,
" If the oxygen masks come down you are to put it on yourself FIRST before your children or anyone else."
As mother's we tend to put ourselves last. BUT if you want to be the best mom possible for your family you need to take time each day for yourself.... NO MATTER WHAT, DON'T MAKE EXCUSES!
YOU ARE WORTH IT and when something means alot to you , then you will find time for it!

No more excuses, if you want to change I will give you the tools to make it a lifestyle change.
Group starts October 13, 2014

Why Do You Gain Weight When You Start Working Out?

Why Do You Gain Weight When You Start Working Out?

Right off the bat, it’s important to note that this doesn’t happen to everyone, so this isn’t a preemptive excuse not to exercise! However, if you do happen to gain a few pounds when starting a new program, odds are that it’s not fat, but rather temporary water weight due to inflammation. Give it some time and it will pass.

That said, it might be a few other things, all of them fixable, so let’s run through the list and see if we can find a match.

The Long Answer

The most likely reason your scale crept up is inflammation. When you work out, it causes little tears in your muscle fibers. This is called microtrauma and it’s why you feel sore after a workout. On the upside, your body heals these little tears, making the fibers tougher than they originally were. That’s how you become stronger and fitter. It’s part of a process called adaptation.

To make these repairs, your body uses its standard healing process, including the inflammation phase—something that’s become a dirty word in our modern world. When you incur injury, including microtrauma, your body releases various substances generally known as inflammatory mediators that swarm the area and perform triage, bringing in healing white blood cells and opening up blood vessels to flush out debris and toxins. There’s so much going on that the area swells up, or inflames.

The fluid required for inflammatory response obviously weighs something—and that might show up on the scale. When inflammation is allowed to occur in a healthy way, it’s temporary.

Of course, keeping your diet healthy and allowing for adequate rest and recovery will help speed the body to less inflammatory phases of healing, but the main key is to keep calm and carry on. If you’re new to fitness—or perhaps just new to a particular kind of fitness—there’s going to be a lot of adaptation going on and therefore a noticeable level of inflammation. It should subside in a couple weeks.

Another less-likely reason you’re gaining weight is that you’re building muscle faster than you’re shedding fat. The general consensus in the fitness community is that the most weight someone new to fitness will gain in muscle is about 2 pounds a month, but that’s not a hard-and-fast number.

On more than one occasion, I’ve assisted women who are frustrated because they felt their new exercise regime was making their thighs fat. Indeed, their legs were getting bigger, but only because increased muscle under adipose tissue was pushing out the fat and making it appear to increase. Again, the trick here is patience. Once that fat burns off—which it does if you keep at it—thick legs will give way to a toned, sexy pair of gams.

But what if something actually is going wrong?

There are a couple situations in which you might actually be putting on fat. The first one would be that you’re not following a proper diet. Yes, exercise burns calories, but it also increases release of ghrelin, a hormone that promotes hunger. So if you’re not paying attention, you’ll probably eat more.

Even if you are eating at a deficit, poor food choices can cause all kinds of issues, usually centered on hormonal imbalances that cause your body to hold onto fat. Every one of Beachbody’s programs comes with some sort of nutrition guide that should alleviate this issue. Don’t be afraid to read the white book that came with your DVDs.

Finally, there’s the issue of excess stress. Exercise is a good thing, but it also puts your body under stress. By itself, that’s great. It’s part of that adaptation I mentioned earlier. If done right with the proper nutritional support, rest, and recovery, it toughens you up, fortifying your body against further stress.

However, when you just pile exercise on top of a bunch of other stress—or if you work out beyond your limits—balance will be lost. Exercise will contribute to your total stress load, becoming part of the problem as opposed to part of the solution.

So if you work twelve hours a day, drink more than two standard alcoholic drinks a night on a regular basis, smoke, sleep less than 7–8 hours a night, eat a junk-filled Standard American Diet or an overly restricted low-calorie diet, and attempt one of our graduate programs when you’re 100 pounds overweight with a history of knee issues, exercise will tax your body just like all the bad habits on that list. In terms of weight gain, this can manifest in a few ways. First, that inflammation we discussed earlier won’t have the chance to give way to later phases of healing. When this happens, it can become chronic and systemic. Second, you’ll promote the release of the stress hormone cortisol that, in turn, can promote fat accumulation—particularly around the abdomen.

I’m not telling you not to exercise. Just the opposite, in fact. However, fitness is a holistic issue. If your goal is to lose weight, build muscle, or get healthier, you might want to take a closer look at your sleep, dietary, and other lifestyle habits. Sparta wasn’t built in a day. If you’re looking for 300-esque abs, it’s going to take a little time (or some expensive CGI), so start with a program you can do and that will keep you motivated instead of burning you out.

Don’t give up. Give your unexpected added pounds a couple of weeks to work themselves out. If they don’t, step back and see if there’s any other aspect of your life that needs fine-tuning.

Message us and We’ll have a look under the hood, and have you back in action in no time.
